Data updates

Compare verified data editions and check which periods their sources cover.

Data editions and source dates come first below; the version history records features and fixes separately. A website release date, source publication date, record cutoff, retrieval date and check date answer different questions. A completed check is not live monitoring or proof that records extend through that day.

The build date records when the package was prepared. Records still end at the source cutoff.

Complete editions used by current pages

Current pages use the editions below for these measures, including small observed groups. The historical baseline retains its original masked tables so earlier results can be reproduced. Download edition details, hashes and source cutoff.

BIA companion edition and disclosure rules

BIA case-appeal companions have their own active edition and disclosure rules. Their release information is shown beside the BIA records and detailed method. They are distinct from both the historical baseline comparison and the official workload series covering all appeal categories.

Historical baseline edition comparison

This comparison covers the named baseline packages only. Later complete editions and BIA companions have separate release metadata; this is not a comparison of every data package currently used by the site.

Both editions use the same EOIR source snapshot. The changes below describe what the website publishes; they do not represent new monthly case activity.

New coverage: Court-level asylum result categories beyond grants and denials are available on the asylum outcomes page. Available categories remain visible even when another category is missing.

Annual figures are compared only for published grant-or-denial groups with the same definition. This does not identify new individual cases. Added files: court-dispositions-audit.json, court-dispositions.json.

Source check summary

This page shows saved source checks, not live monitoring. The check date tells you when each source was last examined.

Sources without a later recorded check are identified in the source catalogue. A matching file does not rule out a newer publication elsewhere. All source editions and checks

How data updates are verified

  1. Check official sources for a new edition or changed file.
  2. Keep candidate files separate from the data currently displayed.
  3. Verify file integrity, counting rules and differences from the previous edition.
  4. Publish the validated edition and retain the previous verified version for recovery.

If a source is unavailable or a candidate fails validation, the last verified data remains available. Check dates record completed source checks; they do not indicate live monitoring.

Verified change records

Selected publicly evidenced changes, with publication dates kept separate from other dates.

This stream covers selected verified public events, not the complete project history. General feature milestones and unpublished work are excluded.

Version updates

New features and improvements, organized by version and date.

Version dates describe website changes. Data coverage is documented in the source dates. See source dates

Commit and milestone dates do not establish when a feature was deployed. These editorial histories remain separate from the typed change stream.

The history starts with v0.5 on 2026-09-14; v1.0 marks the 2026-09-24 milestone.

v2.0 · A redesigned interface and clearer paths through the site

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • A major interface update: the whole site now shares one type family, one color system and one page frame, so it is easier to use and every page works the same way — where you are, what the page answers, and where to go next.
  • Rebuilt the home page as a guide to U.S. asylum information, data and resources.
  • Rebuilt the court and nationality directories around a map, a period choice and a sortable table, and the judges page no longer hides lists behind collapsed sections.
  • Judge, court, nationality and USCIS office profiles now open with their answer and compare it with the court and national figures, with a nationality table, common questions and machine-readable summaries.
  • Added header menus built from one site map, a faster site search with recently viewed pages, a footer site map with source dates, and an in-page contents strip on every page.
  • Every page now ends the same way: its related pages and next steps, each with one line on what you will find there. Scattered link rows were removed, and the data index lists every collection with a short description.
  • Reorganized the records-by-court-judge-or-nationality page: clearer result cards, the nationality mix as a table and a trend table that fits the page.
  • Charts and tables use the available width instead of scrolling sideways, pages hold still while they load, and Chinese and Spanish pages load only their own translations.

v1.3 · BIA appeal records, source coverage and easier browsing

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • Added historical BIA appeal outcomes for FY2021–FY2025, with separate views for all filing parties, respondents and DHS, plus disposition definitions and source downloads.
  • Added BIA records linked to courts, nationalities and judge codes. The explanations distinguish stored associations from decision authorship and final asylum outcomes.
  • Added a source-coverage summary to every judge profile, including profiles without dated results. It separates identity linkage, asylum records, exclusions, missing dates and missing outcomes from an empty filter or a loading failure.
  • Expanded nationality profiles with recorded asylum result categories and respondent appeal records linked to stored denials, with their counting rules and limits.
  • Improved English, Chinese and Spanish page titles, numbers, dates, charts and navigation, and corrected court shares with no grant-or-denial denominator to show “not calculable”.
  • Made public historical profiles, directory pages, comparison tools and the ZIP lookup entry eligible for search indexing, while keeping identity limitations visible.
  • Aligned visible breadcrumbs with search metadata and kept language links and canonical URLs consistent.
  • Aligned USCIS office coverage, default comparison selections and period labels with the verified quarterly records, including the initial page shown before JavaScript runs.
  • Preserved valid court, period, date and outcome filters in shared judge-profile links across languages.
  • Unified the existing 100-record rule for rate comparisons, sorting and summaries, while keeping published small-group counts available; clarified monthly shares that cannot be calculated.
  • Improved text width, baseline alignment, office-directory cards and table-sort controls across screen sizes, and translated browser analytics status messages.

v1.2 · Project identity and product insight

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • Established a consistent AsylumCompass identity across the website and sharing materials.
  • Expanded product analytics to understand how readers use search, public records and guides, with browser opt-out controls.

v1.1 · Broader public data and clearer explanations

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • Expanded complete public-source statistics for nationality groups, representation records, bond, duration and other historical context, including small observed groups.
  • Consolidated related pages and improved multilingual explanations, source references and methods so readers can follow a figure back to its meaning.

v1.0 · The 1.0 milestone

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • Brought court, judge and nationality exploration together with USCIS records, procedural guides and official legal-help directories in the 1.0 release.
  • Improved how readers find court and judge pages, including reviewed links between judge profiles and historical court records.

v0.9 · Consistent judge statistics and focused reader journeys

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • Aligned judge profiles, comparisons and court summaries with the same verified dated judge records, including available small-sample results.
  • Organized the homepage and guides around finding records, understanding notices and finding help, with a single destination for each reader task.

v0.8 · A broader guide to records and help

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • Added nationwide legal-help navigation, USCIS office statistics, motion records, hearing schedules and historical caseflow views.
  • Rebuilt the homepage and public-data index around search and reader needs, connecting records with explanations and official resources.

v0.7 · From a data explorer to a multilingual guide

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • Expanded the explorer with USCIS asylum history, additional recorded asylum result categories and judge result timelines.
  • Added Chinese and Spanish support for core journeys, document and problem guides, and selected official legal-help contacts.

v0.5 · The public-data explorer foundation

Version milestone date; not a deployment receipt:

  • Introduced ZIP-based court lookup, court and judge profiles, nationality groups and historical outcome comparisons.
  • Established dated sources, published calculation methods and a validated, versioned data pipeline as the foundation for future updates.
