Recorded outcomes by fiscal year

Each bar uses the selected filing party’s recorded appeal events in that complete fiscal year as its denominator. The scale always runs from 0 to 100%.

Who filed the appeal changes what the combined pattern represents. Respondent-filed and DHS-filed appeals use separate denominators; Both and Other remain only in the all-party view.

Part of the change in the combined series reflects a change in who filed; patterns within filing-party groups also changed. These data do not establish why.

What the recorded labels mean

Dismissed / IJ decision affirmed (DIS), as recorded
DIS is the documented dismissal/affirmance code. It does not establish a final asylum denial.
Remanded for further action (REM), as recorded
REM returns the matter for further proceedings or action. It is not an asylum grant or a known final result.
Appeal sustained (SUS), as recorded
SUS records that an appeal was sustained. Which party filed matters; it is not a universal respondent win.
Other recorded dispositions
Other is a mixed group of recorded codes, including summary dismissal, summary affirmance and administrative pathways.

Explore historical associations

Some certified pooled records are available on existing court and nationality profiles. They describe stored record associations, not a court’s decision on the BIA appeal or a person’s future outcome.

What these records cannot tell you

The data do not show an individual’s eventual asylum result, predict an appeal, or identify the cause of changes over time.

EOIR’s official workload report counts all appeal types and uses a different population. Its filed, completed and pending totals are separate from these CASE IJ Case Appeal dispositions.

Complete disposition FY2021–FY2025, nationally, for all recorded filing parties, respondent-filed (A), and DHS-filed (I). Each annual scope keeps its own denominator. Query parameters are not supported.
