† Fewer than 100 grant-or-denial records: the share can swing widely. — No grant or denial recorded, or no public number; a dash is not zero. Change from the year before is published for single fiscal years only.

How to read these figures

What a nationality category is

Each row is a nationality category as EOIR’s public records label it. It is the source’s label, not a verified citizenship, and two labels can name one present-day country. Two source categories name no nationality at all; they are listed so that every record is accounted for, and they are not placed among nationalities.

What the share counts

The recorded grant share is grants divided by grants plus denials among eligible asylum outcomes, across all courts. The national figure counts every record, so categories with more records weigh more in it than in the median of categories.

Courts and judges

A category’s page shows its share at each court and under each judge code with enough records. Differences between categories are not by themselves evidence of why: courts, years, detention and representation all differ.

What does a missing number mean?

No public number
The source has no usable published figure for this selection, or the selected comparison has too few records to calculate a stable difference. Complete EOIR count tables show every observed group. Check the source and period before treating an absent group as zero.
Blank source field
The record exists, but that field was not filled in. A blank outcome does not tell us whether the case is still pending.
Zero
A published count of 0. A dash, an unavailable figure or no matching search results does not mean zero cases.

Data and sources

Coverage and source versions are listed separately from publication, acquisition and later checks. A check does not extend the records beyond their cutoff.
