Explore monthly motion records by court and official national motion totals. Each series shows its own source, period and counting rules.
Motion records by month
Monthly counts of motion records saved in the public EOIR data.
Source snapshot cutoff: 2026-08-31
These counts describe saved motion records, including some non-asylum cases. One person or case can have more than one motion; the data does not record a motion grant rate here.

How many motion records are in this selection?
The snapshot total, the count in the selected months and the records this date axis cannot place are three separate numbers. They are never added together or subtracted from one another.

Motion records
A zero month means this snapshot holds no matching record for that month. It is not proof that no such motion was ever filed, and no value is estimated for an empty month.
This motion section provides monthly counts by court and topic. It does not provide verified outcome meanings, motion grant rates, judge-level statistics or a record-level timeline.
The official national motion totals further down this page come from a different source, a different cutoff and a different set of motion types. The two are kept apart and are never joined into one series.
National motions
Official national motion counts, separate from asylum grant and denial statistics.

How to read this table
FY2026 covers 2025-10-01 through 2026-06-30. It is cumulative through the third quarter, not activity in that quarter alone.
The source gives counts, not grants and denials of motions. No approval rate can be calculated from this table.
BIA MTRs combine motions to reopen, reconsider and recalendar. They are not a fourth immigration-court motion type. The table does not identify unique people or overlap between categories; the columns are not added into a person count.
The two sources count different sets of motions. The monthly records match four topics on the exact motion code saved in the source; a code that mixes several actions is not used. The official table counts three court motion types and the Board’s combined figure.

Motions to reopen
A request to consider new facts or evidence after a decision.
Continuances are not in this batch. A court is the court code saved with the motion; it does not show current jurisdiction or that a venue change succeeded.
A motion is a request, not a guaranteed outcome. The appropriate procedure and deadlines depend on the record; seek qualified help.
